FIRST® Tech Challenge is a robotics competition for students in grades 7 - 12.
Teams of up to 10 students are responsible for designing, building and programming their robots to compete as alliances against other teams. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and is programmed using JAVA. Teams are required to develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles.
Awards are given for the competition as well as for community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments. Teams advance from local qualifying tournaments to state championship tournaments, before advancing to the World Championship Tournament, held each year in St. Louis, Mo.

2016 Congressional App Challenge - Results
The Congressional App Challenge (CAC) is a competition aimed at encouraging U.S. high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. The Challenge is intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education and encourage students to engage in these fields. By encouraging and recognizing our nation’s young programming talent, Congress hopes to shine a light on the growing importance of these skills.

FIRST Pen Pals is a new way for FIRST teams in any of the four levels of competition to find and provide mentorship. FIRST Pen Pals helps teams find mentors/mentees, and from there the two teams have the opportunity to form close relationships. Connected mentor/mentee partnerships operate independently of FIRST Pen Pals and are free to email, call, text, Google Hangout, telegram, AOL Message, etc. FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship Lottery Details Announced!

Details HERE 2016-2017 Abbott Fund Team Grant
We are happy to announce that the 2016-2017 Abbott Fund Team Grant application will open Friday, October 21st. This grant is only available to teams participating in FIRST® Tech Challenge and FIRST® Robotics Competition. The grant will close Friday, November 4th. All teams will be notified by Friday, November 11th.

For the 2016-2017 season, the FIRST Tech Challenge software development kit (FTC SDK) will require that users upgrade to Android Studio 2.1x.
Users who have upgraded to the newer 2.1x version of Android Studio can download a "beta" version of the FIRST Tech Challenge SDK and test it using the newer version 2.1x Android Studio software. IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR ALL COACHES, MENTORS, AND TEAM MEMBERS:
As part of FIRST's Youth Protection Program, the use of STIMS is required by all Team Members. You must complete registration and sign the FIRST Consent and Release form prior to your child’s initial FIRST competition or event. Reminder to teams:
Along with the "WARNING: Robot Moves During Initialization Routine" sticker that has been required for the past couple of years, this year there is also a requirement for use of "Main Robot Power" sticker. Game Manual <RG05> "The Robot main power switch(es) MUST be mounted/positioned to be readily accessible and visible to competition personnel. A Main Robot Power label must be placed near the main power switch(es) of the robot. Please print this page and affix the image (below) to your robot." Please make sure this sticker is present on your robot. |
